Special Communication and Information Security State Service, based on information disseminated by leading global sources in the field of cybersecurity, expresses serious concern over the recent unauthorized leak of a massive database containing approximately 16 billion usernames and passwords on the Internet. According to available information, this incident is considered one of the largest data breaches ever recorded in cyberspace.
The leaked database includes user information from widely used platforms such as Apple, Google, Facebook, GitHub, and Telegram, as well as data related to various social networks, VPN services, and government institutions. It is reported that these data were collected through numerous malicious software programs ("infostealers"), most of which have been identified for the first time in the open Internet environment.
To ensure reliable protection against increasing cyber threats and to strengthen individual cyber hygiene, the Special Communication and Information Security State Service advises citizens to exercise caution, use antivirus software, avoid clicking on suspicious links sent to them to protect against cyberattacks, and report fraudulent domains to the “blacklist.gov.az” platform.
