On 25 June 2026, a practical training entitled “Cyber Range Hands-On Exercise” was conducted at the “Information Security Tests” Laboratory of the Special Communication and Information Security State Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SCISSS), located at the Baku Higher Oil School, jointly organized by SCISSS and the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics of Romania, with the support of NATO’s Science for Peace and Security Programme.
The primary objective of the training was to enhance the knowledge and skills of operators, technical specialists and government institutions operating in the energy sector in the field of cybersecurity, strengthen awareness of modern threats targeting critical information infrastructure and improve capabilities for responding to cybersecurity incidents promptly and effectively.
As part of the practical exercise, representatives of the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics of Romania delivered presentations on current cyber threats targeting the energy sector, real-world cyberattack cases against critical infrastructure, as well as approaches applied in incident response processes. Participants carried out practical tasks focused on the detection, analysis and response to cybersecurity incidents based on various scenarios.
A total of 18 participants were selected from 13 institutions and organizations representing the country's energy sector to take part in the training.
